Japan settles for silver in mixed team judo event, repeats Tokyo Games disappointment against France

PARIS — Japan lost to France on Saturday in the mixed judo team final at the Paris Olympics, repeating the silver medal it won against the French at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

In other sports, Hina Hayata won third place in the women’s singles event in table tennis, securing bronze for two consecutive Olympic Games. In the women’s doubles event in badminton, Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida also won their bronze medal match.

Nadeshiko Japan lost 0-1 in extra time in the quarter-finals of women’s football.

The women’s sabre event gave Japan a bronze medal after beating host France on Saturday in the battle for third place.

On Friday, Japan reached the quarterfinals in men’s volleyball after finishing eighth in the preliminary round. However, Japan lost to Spain in the quarterfinals of men’s football.
