The hunt for talent is intensifying in Japan’s semiconductor industry, which is booming thanks to efforts to improve national economic security and the spread of generative artificial intelligence systems.
As projects to build large factories in Hokkaido and the Kyushu region are underway, job information company Recruit has reported a jump in vacancies for chip engineers. The annual salaries offered to experienced workers have also increased.
According to a study by Recruit Agent, a job information website for people looking to change careers, job openings for engineering positions in semiconductor manufacturing or chip manufacturing equipment increased 14.24-fold in fiscal year 2023 compared to 10 years earlier.
