LVMH’s Sephora lays off about 10% of staff in China as problems mount

Cosmetics chain Sephora is laying off hundreds of workers in China, according to insiders, as one of LVMH’s biggest brands tries to turn around a loss-making business in the world’s second-largest economy.

Sephora China has laid off both office and store staff and persuaded others to resign. It is estimated that 10 percent of the more than 4,000 employees in the country have been affected, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.

According to one of the sources, several top executives, including national retail and e-commerce executives, have also left the company.
