A Japanese government panel on Wednesday outlined its plans to strengthen the drug discovery process and deliver the latest medicines to the public, as well as efforts to build a system with a sustainable cycle of investment and innovation .
Japan has a rich history of discovering various medicines that are used all over the world to this day. However, the recent global transition to biopharmaceuticals and regenerative cell medicine, as well as the development of medicines using artificial intelligence and pharmacogenomics, has left the country behind.
The country has also experienced delays in obtaining certain new medicines – especially those that fight rare diseases or to which they are to be administered children – to patients who need them.
