The US is as much as 15 years behind China in developing high-tech nuclear power as Beijing’s state-backed technology approach and extensive financing give the country an edge, a report said Monday.
China has 27 nuclear reactors under construction with an average construction time of about seven years, much faster than other countries the research of the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, a Washington-based nonpartisan research institute.
โChina’s rapid deployment of increasingly modern nuclear power plants is leading to significant economies of scale and learning effects over time, and this suggests that Chinese companies will gain an advantage from incremental innovation in this sector in the future,โ the report said.
