Austria’s Wachid Borchashvili celebrates his victory over Afghanistan’s Mohammad Samim Faizad during their elimination match in the men’s -81 kg team judo competition at the Champ-de-Mars Arena during the 2024 Summer Olympics, Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in Paris, France.

PARIS (AP) โ€” An Afghan judoka tested positive during the Paris Olympics for the anabolic steroid that sprinter Ben Johnson used during the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Mohammad Samim Faizad provided a sample in his opening match that tested positive for stanozolol, the International Testing Agency said Saturday, marking the third failed drug test at the Paris Games.

On Tuesday he lost his only match in the men’s 81 kilogram class to Wachid Borchashvili from Austria.

Faizad will be 22 at the Olympics, from which he has been eliminated. He was the only athlete based in Afghanistan on the three-men, three-women team in Paris.
