TOKYOOctober 17 (News On Japan) – ANA has unveiled its largest automated cargo warehouse at Narita International Airport, which will go into operation next week.
The airline has consolidated its warehousing facilities previously spread across six locations into this expansive new facility, which now spans over 60,000 square feet, making it Narita’s largest. It has automated freight transport robots, addressing workforce shortages through automation.
Ogawa Tomomi reports: “There are no people on board the forklift trucks; they operate unmanned.”
The facility’s capacity to handle cargo has increased by 25% to 500,000 tonnes per year, with a 40% reduction in transfer times at Narita for trilateral cargo between Asia and the West.
Inoue, ANA’s president, said: “We aim to significantly expand our freight business and make it one of our two key pillars. We aim to grow with enough momentum to become one of the top five globally .”
