Anime ‘Totto-Chan’ wins prize at prestigious Annecy film festival

“Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window,” directed by Japan’s Shinnosuke Yakuwa, received an award Saturday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

During the film festival awards ceremony, the Japanese work was presented with the Paul Grimault Award, a special prize for a feature film.

The Annecy Festival is one of the largest animated film festivals in the world and is said to be the most prestigious.

The film Totto-Chan is based on the bestselling novel of the same name in which Japanese actress Tetsuko Kuroyanagi describes her childhood.

In the film, Ririana Ono serves as the voice actress for Totto-Chan, and actor Koji Yakusho serves as the principal of the school Totto-Chan attends.

The film was shown in Japan last December.
