Prosecutors in Okinawa Prefecture said Friday they have charged a 21-year-old U.S. Marine with non-consensual sexual intercourse resulting in injury.
The Naha Prefectural Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton on June 17.
According to the indictment, on May 26 in the village of Yomitan, Clayton squeezed a woman’s head for sexual purposes, causing subconjunctival hemorrhages and other injuries that took about two weeks to heal.
The news follows the revelation earlier this week that a US pilot at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa was accused of sexually abusing a girl, and is expected to further fuel local sentiment against the US military presence there.
