British diver Daley takes part in a record fifth Games

Tom Daley will become the first British diver to compete in five Summer Olympics after being named in the team for the Paris Games, British media reported on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old, who left the sport after the Tokyo Olympics but decided to return last year, is set to defend his gold medal in the men’s 10m synchronized platform event.

Daley goes diving with teammate Noah Williams, with the pair winning silver at the world championships in Doha in February and a world championship gold medal in Berlin in March.

โ€œThere is a fantastic mix of youth and experience within the squad, and I am delighted to welcome back Olympic champions Jack (Laughter) and Tom,โ€ Team GB Chef de Mission Mark England said in a statement to British media.

โ€œParticular congratulations to Tom, who becomes the first British diver to compete in five Olympic Games โ€“ a remarkable achievement.โ€

Daley first competed at the Olympics as a 14-year-old in 2008, winning individual bronze medals in London and Tokyo, as well as bronze in the synchronized 10 meters event at Rio 2016.

The three other pairs are Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen (women’s 3m synchronized), Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson (women’s 10m synchronized) and Anthony Harding and Laugher (men’s 3m synchronized).

The divers for the individual events will be determined after the Aquatics GB Diving Championships from May 23-26.
