Kodomo shokudō Cafeterias offering free or low-price meals to needy children continue to operate in areas affected by the powerful Jan. 1 earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan.
But some kodomo shokudō operators in the peninsula’s Okunoto region, which was particularly hard hit by the magnitude 7.6 earthquake, are experiencing difficulties in offering their services due to the damage caused by the disaster and therefore need help from other parts of the prefecture and elsewhere in the country.
In the Ishikawa peninsula city of Suzu, six entities from within and outside the prefecture jointly held a kodomo shokudō event on March 31, with menu items including childhood favorites such as chocolate-coated bananas, cotton candy and a bowl of rice topped with ginger fried pork.
