CrowdStrike’s routine update to its widely used cybersecurity software, which crashed customer computers worldwide on Friday, apparently did not undergo sufficient quality control before being deployed, security experts said.
The latest version of Falcon Sensor software was intended to make CrowdStrike customersโ systems more secure from hacking by updating the threats it defends against. But faulty code in the update files resulted in one of the most widespread technical outages in recent years for companies using Microsoftโs Windows operating system.
Global banks, airlines, hospitals and government offices were disrupted. CrowdStrike released information to help repair affected systems, but experts said it would take time to get them back online because manual removal of the flawed code was required.
