“Never sell your bitcoins,” Donald Trump told a cheering crowd at a crypto conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in late July.
The Republican presidential candidate’s speech was the latest attempt to appeal to crypto-oriented voters ahead of the November election, with a series of campaign promises including a plan for a bitcoin reserve fund.
“If elected, it will be the policy of my administration to retain 100% of all bitcoins that the United States government currently owns or acquires going forward,” Trump said, adding that the funds would serve as “the core of the strategic national bitcoin reserve.”
