Daichi Takatani of Japan wins silver medal in men’s 74 kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics; loses to Jamalov of Uzbekistan

PARIS โ€“ Daichi Takatani, 29, won a silver medal in the men’s 74kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, losing to Razambek Salambekovitch Jamalov of Uzbekistan.

Takatani is the youngest of three siblings who are all wrestlers. The Paris Games will be his first participation in an Olympic competition.

At the 2023 World Championships, where he competed against many strong foreign rivals, he won a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle category up to 74 kg.

His World Championship medal was Japan’s first in nine years. The country’s last World Championship medal was won in 2014 by his older brother, Sosuke, who competed in three consecutive Olympics.
