Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo for the spring-summer 2025 season kicked off on Monday. Some 30 domestic and international fashion brands participated in the official program alone.
One such brand is Telma, an emerging Japanese brand that kicked off the week with a fashion show at the Shibuya Hikarie cultural and shopping complex. The brand collaborated with Kyocera Corp. to produce eco-friendly fabrics to make long coats and other items in the collection unveiled at the show.
Traditionally, dyeing fabrics requires a huge amount of water, and water pollution from runoff is a serious problem. But new technology has apparently allowed the company to reduce the amount of water needed to dye 1 kilogram of fabric from 153 liters to just 0.02 liters.
โWe have made progress in creating products that are environmentally friendly,โ said Terumasa Nakajima, 42, the designer who founded the brand.
