AOMORI โ About 30 fifth- and sixth-graders played games and interacted with foreigners during a program aimed at increasing elementary school studentsโ understanding of internationalization. The program kicked off on July 6 at the Yanagawa Building of Aomori City Hall.
The children learned about intercultural communication by playing cards and talking with international relations coordinators and assistant language teachers. Events in the program will continue each month until December and will include welcoming foreign visitors arriving by cruise ship at Aomori Port and visiting the elementary school at the U.S. military base in Misawa Prefecture.
A sixth-grader at Sannai-Nishi Elementary School, 11-year-old Shunta Mitsuhashi, said, “My dream is to become a soccer player. I joined because I want to speak a foreign language. I’m happy to meet people from many countries.”
