The Fuji Rock Festival ’24 kicked off on Friday at the Naeba ski resort in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, with more than 200 artists from Japan and abroad on the bill.
The annual three-day festival, which runs through Sunday, is one of the largest outdoor music events in Japan, attracting tens of thousands of festival-goers each day.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the festival at the Naeba Ski Resort. The event was originally held near Mt. Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture in 1997, and was therefore called Fuji Rock. However, since 1999 it has been held at the resort in Niigata Prefecture.
There are more than 10 stages of different sizes spread over four kilometres in the hills of the ski area.
Artists from various genres are expected to perform, including international artists such as The Killers, Kraftwerk, Peggy Gou, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Teddy Swims, as well as Japanese artists such as Awich, Hiromi Uehara, 10-Feet and Rimi Natsukawa.
In addition to watching live performances, people at the event can also enjoy a bit of nature by taking a walk in the forest or taking a dip in a crystal clear river. There are many food and drink stalls and art installations throughout the large venue, providing entertainment for festival goers of all ages.
