Newly released documents from the National Consumer Affairs Center (NCC) show that complaints about pest control services have increased significantly, especially among young consumers who report costs far exceed those advertised online. In the year ending in March there was a 1.5 times greater increase in complaints compared to the previous year.
The NCC data shows an increase in the number of inquiries about pest and pest eradication, from 972 in FY 2020 to 1,612 in FY 2022 and a jump to 2,290 in FY 2023. Young adults, especially teens and people in their twenties, are often seduced by under-advertised advertisements. only to receive significantly higher compensation when providing services.
The surveys show that the number of complaints from contractors in their teens to 20s increased from 212 in FY 2022 to 552 in FY 2023, an increase of 2.6 times, with the majority related to the eradication of cockroaches.
