Ishikawa doctor ‘not going anywhere’ six months after Noto earthquake

“I’m not going anywhere,” said Dr. Takashi Miyashita, 67, as he reopened the Miyashita Clinic in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, six months after the clinic was destroyed by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

The clinic, the only medical facility in the mountainous Mii district of Wajima, faced the possibility of permanent closure due to severe damage and the ongoing exodus of residents from the area. Yet, driven by the heartfelt pleas of the local community, Miyashita has chosen to rebuild.

Miyashita began his medical career in 1995 under the guidance of his father, a dedicated surgeon, and took over the management of the clinic in 2014, continuing nearly 60 years of medical care for his family.
