Hundreds of multinational companies called on Japan on Tuesday to triple its capacity to generate renewable energy by 2035, as the heavily coal-dependent country changes its energy policy.
The group of more than 400 major companies, called RE100, that have committed to using fully renewable electricity, includes 87 Japanese companies such as Sony and Panasonic.
โBy increasing its domestic renewable energy capacity, Japan can significantly improve its energy security, safeguard its international competitiveness and increase private investment in more sustainable energy projects,โ the group said.
