TOKYONovember 12 (News On Japan) – Japan’s Ministry of Finance presented a plan at the Fiscal System Council on November 11 to gradually increase the ‘teacher adjustment allowance’ โ currently awarded as a substitute for overtime โ from the current 4% of monthly salary to 10% over a period of five years.
This increase is dependent on the implementation of work style reforms to reduce teacher overtime. However, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is pushing for a one-off increase in the allowance to 13% in the 2025 budget, which could potentially lead to challenging negotiations with the Ministry of Finance.
