The Japanese Olympic team received a spectacular send-off in Tokyo on Friday from a large and enthusiastic crowd, mostly children. The athletes stood together in the spotlight in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which begin later this month.
The Japanese delegation participated in the opening ceremony at Yoyogi National Stadium in the early afternoon, after which they went to Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium for a farewell party. During this party, all the Japanese teams marched into the arena to the cheers of the crowd.
“Three years ago, we held the farewell party online,” said Mitsugi Ogata, secretary general of the Japanese Olympic Committee, who will lead the Japanese delegation in Paris. “We are very grateful for such a warm farewell today. We are looking forward to Paris.”
