A delegation from a Japanese group tasked with promoting economic ties with China expressed concern on Monday about the safety of Japanese citizens involved in bilateral economic interactions.
The issue was raised during a meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing between the delegation of the Association for the Promotion of International Trade of Japan and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, following the introduction of China’s revised anti-espionage law last year and the recent attack on a Japanese mother and child in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
According to well-informed sources, association leader Yohei Kono, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, referred to the detention of Japanese citizens in China.
