Japanese logistics companies are seeking partnerships to tackle the driver shortage

Logistics companies are strengthening partnerships to maintain delivery services amid concerns about a looming truck driver shortage due to new regulations limiting drivers’ overtime.

Japan Post and Seino Transportation announced Thursday that they have reached a basic agreement to work together on joint long-distance truck operations in about a year.

As the logistics sector is under pressure to cope with several challenges, including the expected shortage of truck drivers and decarbonization, โ€œwe believe that, in addition to the efforts of individual companies, co-creation that transcends corporate boundaries is crucial importance,โ€ said Satoshi Takahashi, president of Seino Transportation, a major Gifu-based business-to-business logistics operator.
