Japanese retailer Aeon is expanding its electronic receipts service in approximately 4,000 stores

Aeon Co. has announced that it will gradually expand its electronic receipt service to approximately 4,000 stores within its 19 group companies from this Friday.

The group’s 19 companies, including Aeon Retail Co., The Daiei, Inc. and My Basket Co., will offer customers who have downloaded the company’s app, iAEON, the ability to receive e-receipts on their smartphones at checkout.

The e-receipts will contain the same information as what is on paper receipts, and returns and invoice issuance will also be available.

According to Aeon, digitalization will reduce the paper consumption of 78,000 trees per year.
