The Ministry of Transport said on Monday it will conduct an on-site inspection at Toyota Motor’s headquarters on Tuesday after irregularities were found in model applications from Toyota, Mazda Motor, Yamaha Motor, Honda Motor and Suzuki Motor.
Toyota said its chairman would handle an investigation by the Transportation Ministry into the company’s car certification applications.
The Ministry of Transport has ordered 23 car makers and 62 equipment manufacturers to conduct a new internal investigation from January to February and report whether data falsification or other violations have occurred over the past decade.
Toyota saw several production stops after fraud was detected at two units. In December, an internal investigation by Daihatsu Motor found that most of its vehicles had not been properly tested for crashworthiness.
Toyota Industries also suspended all engine deliveries in January after an investigation found it had falsified power figures.
