Kogei Dining, an event where the public can enjoy meals with tableware made by traditional artisans and special performances of traditional Japanese dances by living national kabuki actor Bando Tamasaburo, is held at the MOA Museum of Art in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture , from November 9 to 12.
Lectures are also planned before the meals by artists and craftsmen leading the way in the field of traditional art.
The speakers are Ryohei Miyata, a metal artist and former commissioner of the Cultural Affairs Agency, on November 9; Kazumi Murose, an urushi artist and living national maki-e-lacquer artist on November 10; Imaizumi Imaemon XIV, a porcelain artist and living national treasure as an artist of multi-colored porcelain, on November 11; and Yukie Osumi, a metal artist and living national treasure as a creator of hammered works on November 12.
The artists will talk about their respective work and the appeal of Japanese crafts.
Bando Tamasaburo’s special performances include two sets of dances called ‘Zangetsu’ and ‘Takao’.
From November 1, the museum will hold an exhibition: โOgata Korin’s Opus Magnum: Red and White Plum Blossom Meets Wind God and Thunder God.โ The two sets of displays will be exhibited together for the first time in 39 years, and other works by artists from the Rinpa school will also be displayed.
Kogei Dining is held as part of Japan Cultural Expo 2.0, which the government organizes to promote tourism and cultural arts.
Yomiuri Ryoko (Yomiuri Travel Service Co.) invites participants to come and enjoy Kogei Dining. The event starts at 10 a.m. all four days and ends at 5 p.m
From November 9 to 11, Japanese dishes will be served for ยฅ46,000 for each guest and Western cuisine will be served on November 12 for ยฅ50,000.
