More than 30 members of the cross-partisan advisory board for members of the Japan-Taiwan Diet will attend the inauguration ceremony of new Taiwan President Lai Ching-te to be held on May 20, it has been learned.
Keiji Furuya, a Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker who chairs the supra-partisan advisory council for members of the Japan-Taiwan Diet and who will attend, announced the news during his meeting in parliament on Thursday. The attendance is the largest ever, he said.
Furuya and other council members also arrange to meet with Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu and other prominent people during their visit to Taiwan. Furuya said at the meeting that the council’s biggest role is to strengthen ties with countries and regions that share common values.
In a video message to the meeting on Thursday, Lai said Taiwan and Japan share a common fate of life and death, and stressed his desire to expand exchanges and cooperation with Japan.
