New Famicom Game Cartridge Business Card Holders from Sega Plaza

If you’ve ever wanted to find a way to bring back the nostalgia of old-school gaming, you’ll want to head to an arcade or “game center” in Japan this September. There you’ll find the “Family Computer Card Case” collection, which will be released in UFO Catcher crane games as part of Sega Plaza’s prize series.

They look exactly like Family Computer (โ€œFamicomโ€) cartridges, but they are actually card sleeves.

Sega Plaza is Japan’s premier producer of gaming and anime-related prize products, and while it is a division of Sega, it partners with a variety of franchises to provide a wide range of exclusive merchandise to customers. Nintendo is one such major player that partners with Sega for exclusive Plaza product releases, and while the two were once rivals in the video game console market, they now enjoy a friendly relationship as collaborators, which is good news for gamers.

There are five to collect in the series, covering the following titles: Super Mario Brothers, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, and Excitebike. At 11 x 1.5 x 7 centimeters, the cases are almost identical in size to a normal Famicom cartridge, and they have the same shape and feel, taking you straight back to your bedroom in the ’80s.

โ–ผ The only difference is that the cases can be opened to store cards.

While they can be used to hold all sorts of cards, youโ€™ll certainly attract attention and perhaps even curry favor with a potential business partner if you use the case as a business card holder. In Japan, where business cards are presented at meetings, cases are vital, and a case like this is likely to break the ice and spark a conversation, especially with a fellow Famicom fan.

As soon as news of the release broke, fans in Japan immediately expressed their desire to get their hands on the cases, leaving comments like the following:

โ€œI need this in my life!โ€

โ€œI want Ice Climber!!!!โ€

โ€œThese will help me relive my past battles.โ€

โ€œIt’s great that Sega is making Famicom products!โ€

โ€œWow, I wonder if they’ll add any more classics to the collection?โ€

โ€œI hope they make a series of this, with Mother [EarthBound Beginnings]Dragon Quest I and Final Fantasy III to follow!โ€

We’d love to see more titles added to the series, but for now we’re eager to get our hands on this entire set when it releases on September 20. Sega Plaza has yet to reveal where the Game Center locations will release – and there’s a chance they’ll be available in some stores too – but those details will be added to the product page closer to the release date.
