Niconico resumes service after two-month cyberattack outage

TOKYOAug. 6 (News On Japan) – Niconico, the video service, is fully operational again after being offline for nearly two months due to a cyberattack.

In June, publishing giant KADOKAWA suffered a cyberattack that led to a data breach involving personal information held by the group. The attack also caused system outages, resulting in the suspension of services such as Niconico for nearly two months.

Dwango, the company that operates Niconico, completed the restoration work and resumed service on Monday. The temporary service currently in operation will now be discontinued.

Dwango also announced that other services will gradually resume by the end of this month. In addition, the company plans to compensate paying members by refunding the membership fees for the period during which the services were unavailable.
