Saudi Arabia would divest from China if the US asked it to, the head of the country’s new investment fund for semiconductor and artificial intelligence technology said.
โThe requests so far have been to keep production and supply chains completely separate, but if the partnerships with China become a problem for the US, we will divest,โ said Amit Midha, the CEO of Alat, an investment firm. backed by $100 billion in capital from the Public Investment Fund.
US officials have told their Saudi Arabian counterparts that they must choose between Chinese and American technology as they look to build out Saudi Arabia’s semiconductor industry, Bloomberg reports, as part of ongoing talks on a range of national security issues.
