Hong Kong’s Court of Appeal on Wednesday granted the government’s request to ban a protest song titled “Glory to Hong Kong,” overturning a lower court ruling that had rejected such a ban because of the potential ‘chilling effects’ on freedom of expression.
The ruling comes amid what critics say is an erosion of the rule of law and individual rights in Hong Kong, amid Beijing’s security crackdown that has jailed dozens of opposition Democrats and shut down liberal media Closed.
The case has implications for internet freedoms and the operations of companies, including internet platform operators (IPOs) and technology companies such as Google.
