The US will expand sanctions to curb chip sales to the Russian war machine

U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration is expanding sanctions on sales of semiconductor chips and other goods to Russia, targeting third-party sellers in China and elsewhere, as it looks to further stifle Vladimir Putin’s war machine in Ukraine.

The Biden administration will announce changes Wednesday that will expand the scope of existing export controls and restrictions and target U.S.-branded goods even if they are not made domestically, according to people familiar with the move who spoke on condition of anonymity asked to detail the plans before the announcement. .

Chips in particular are a major target of the changes.
