Serum Institute of India is expanding its production capacity as it expects sales of life-saving vaccines, including those against malaria and cervical cancer, to double over the next five years.
The world’s largest vaccine manufacturer currently has the capacity to produce 3 billion doses of all types of vaccines annually, but only sells about 1.5 billion doses annually. The Pune-based company predicts this will change.
โAs countries increase their healthcare budgets, you will see a huge increase in vaccines that can prevent many diseases,โ Serum’s CEO Adar Poonawalla said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. โVaccines have been proven to be the most effective tool for prevention.โ
