Toko Jinno: ‘Eating fish is common in Japan, but the lives of fishermen are not so well known’

In Japanese the word “senjō cameraman‘ usually translates to ‘battlefield cameraman’, but Toko Jinno35, uses a different reading of the word senjō, ‘on board a ship’, to describe her work as a photographer documenting the lives of Hokkaido’s fishermen.

1. Have you always lived in Kushiro, Hokkaido? Yes, I lived here until I graduated from high school, then I transferred to Sapporo International University.

2. Why did you choose Sapporo? I was interested in studying tourism and English. After graduating, I worked at New Chitose Airport. Sapporo is a wonderful city to live in.
