Ueda promises better communication if he sticks to the script

Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda told lawmakers on Friday that the central bank will strive to better communicate its positions and policies.

He made the comments in the Lower House during an extraordinary session of parliament, which was convened to discuss the market turmoil that hit Japan and the rest of the world early this month after a surprise interest rate hike and comments from Ueda that some analysts saw as far too hawkish.

“We understand that it is vital to explain our views on the economy, prices and our policy approach in a careful and easy-to-understand way to a wide range of people,” the central bank chief said.
