Violence against children in armed conflict reached “extreme levels” in 2023, especially in Gaza and Sudan, according to an upcoming UN report obtained by AFP on Tuesday.
The United Nations’ annual Children in Armed Conflict report blacklisted the Sudanese military, as well as rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), for “killing and maiming children, and for attacks on schools and hospitals.”
Hamas and the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad were also added to the blacklist for the October 7 attack on Israel, as was the Israeli army for its retaliatory campaign against Hamas in Gaza.
