TOKYOAug. 26 (News On Japan) – As the Japanese government declared August 26 this year as “Volcano Disaster Prevention Day”, an educational event was held at a museum in Tokyo where participants could increase their knowledge about volcanoes.
Volcano Disaster Prevention Day was established to commemorate the first volcanic observatory in Japan, which was established on Mount Asama on August 26, 1911.
On August 25, the day before Volcano Disaster Prevention Day, the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno, Tokyo, hosted a lesson on the formation of volcanoes and the mechanisms of eruptions.
Participants shared their thoughts, and one of them said: โIf an underwater volcano erupts, I thought it would be dangerous for whales and other sea creatures that might sleep there. It would also be dangerous for humans.โ
Another participant noted, โIt’s important to understand the formation of volcanoes and the ocean floor.โ
A government-sponsored commemoration ceremony will be held in Tokyo on August 26.
