An 84-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck at a shopping center in Hita, Oita Prefecture on Monday, police said.
Hatsumi Hino was rushed to a hospital after a witness reported to police that a person had been stabbed around 11:25 am. About an hour later she was confirmed dead at the hospital.
A man, whose address and employment status were unknown, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Police have not revealed whether the man admitted to the charges or not.
The shopping complex is located about 200 meters south of the city’s Hita Station.
