Women in management positions in Japan exceed 10% for the first time

Women make up an average of 10.9 percent of all people in management positions at Japanese companies, according to a recent study by Teikoku Databank. For the first time since the statistics began in 2013, the share of women rose to more than 10 percent.

The survey of 11,282 companies, conducted by the research firm between July 18 and 31, found that the number of women in management positions in Japan was slowly increasing, but that the country is still far from achieving the government’s goal of having 30% of management positions filled by women as early as this decade.

There is still a long way to go before the country reaches parity with many European countries and the United States, where the percentage of women in management positions is above 30%.
