LY Corp. on Monday introduced a feature that uses artificial intelligence to encourage Yahoo! News users to review their comments on the news distribution site before posting them if the comments contain statements that could be offensive.
AI detects words that violate commenting rules or expressions that could be perceived as offensive. It suggests that users who are about to post them should check the language, while a portion of the comments in question are displayed.
The suggestions include a recommendation to change the words or expressions by using friendly language.
Users can decide for themselves whether to follow the suggestions and post their comments without making any changes.
LY wants to further ensure the proper functioning of the comments section by offering users the opportunity to rate their comments.
Personal attacks, intimidation, offensive language, and inappropriate or thoughtless criticism are prohibited in the Yahoo! News comments section.
LY takes action, including removal, against comments that violate the rules.
