YOKOHAMAMay 21 (News On Japan) – The Yokohama Board of Education has apologized for filling courtroom seats with staff during a trial of a teacher accused of sex crimes, preventing the general public from attending.
According to the Yokohama Board of Education, numerous staff members were mobilized to fill courtroom seats during the trial of a teacher accused of sex crimes, effectively barring the public from participating.
At least eight trials conducted between last year and this year mobilized a total of 371 staff, with up to 50 staff taking part in one trial. In some cases, travel reimbursements were provided for this service.
The Board of Education stated that the measure was taken at the request of the victims to prevent the dissemination of their information, and denied any intention to protect the suspect. However, they acknowledged that the action was excessive and apologized.
