Attacked police officer uses experience to help victims

A police officer who was attacked at a police box in western Japan in 2019 has expressed his desire to support crime victims using his experience as Sunday marked five years of the attack.

“I want to help the victims feel better, even if just a little bit, because I understand their points of view,” said 31-year-old Suzunosuke Kose, who now holds the rank of senior police officer, in his first-ever interview with the media since the attack.

Kose was stabbed multiple times by a knife-wielding man in the left chest and both thighs at around 5:40 a.m. on June 16, 2019, in front of a police box in Suita city, Osaka Prefecture, where he worked. attack left him unconscious and in a critical condition.
