SANJO, Niigata โ A โfactory flea marketโ was held last month in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, where bargain hunters sought out local metalworkers’ wares and other items.
The event, called Kouba Nominoichi (Factory Flea Market), was held on April 20 and 21 at the Sanjo โMonozukuriโ (Production) School, where companies and other organizations have offices. The location was full of visitors looking for rare items, such as sample products that never made it to market and products that have been discontinued.
It was the sixth time the event was held, and more than 90 companies and designers, mainly from the Tsubame Sanjo area of โโthe prefecture, set up stalls.
Items on display included tools and camping items sold at outlet prices due to scratches and stains, discontinued kitchenware and small stainless steel plates. At other stands, craftsmen demonstrated welding, spoon-making and other skills and provided practical instruction to families.
โWe hope that through conversations with the artisans, visitors will be fascinated by the craftsmanship,โ said Akie Shida, head of the secretariat of Sanjo โMonozukuriโ School.
