The Biden administration said Israel may have violated international law in its war against Hamas, but it will not stop the flow of weapons and bombs to a key ally.
The State Department said in a long-awaited report on Friday that while Israel’s reliance on US weapons in Gaza means it has likely violated obligations under international law, it has not been able to verify specific cases.
It is “reasonable to assess” that US weapons “have been used by Israeli security forces since October 7 in cases inconsistent with IHL obligations or with established best practices for limiting harm to civilians,” the ministry said in the report , which is an abbreviation for international humanitarian law.
