From May, NTT Docomo will sell smart rings at a number of Docomo stores, with which you can make contactless payments.

The telecommunications company plans to form a business alliance with Evering Co., the start-up that produces the smart rings, and will consider future business opportunities where the two companies can collaborate.

Docomo aims to strengthen the services it offers outside the telecommunications sector, such as payment and financial services.

Evering developed and sells the smart ring.

The IC chip in the ring is compatible with Visa’s contactless payment system. The smart ring allows users to pay simply by holding their hand over readers in places such as supermarkets, convenience stores and ticket booths at train stations.

Users can pay with the smart ring, even if they are not a Docomo subscriber. The device is available with a fixed subscription for ยฅ550 per month or with a purchase subscription starting from ยฅ19,800.

Docomo plans to gradually expand the number of stores offering the smart ring and eventually link the device to the ‘d Payment’ and ‘d Point’ services.
