TOKYOApril 29 (News On Japan) – A recent survey by the Rengo Research Institute, which focuses on labor issues, found that only just over 6% of workers report that their pay increases have exceeded inflation.
The study surveyed 2,000 employees in the Greater Tokyo and Kansai regions.
Only 6.6% of respondents said their wage growth over the past year was greater than price growth, while 60% reported their wage growth was smaller.
This highlights the problem that, despite significant wage increases negotiated during the recent spring wage negotiations, these have not kept pace with increases in the cost of living.
Additionally, 50% of male respondents and 60% of female respondents noted that prices have “increased significantly” compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, 41.3% of respondents experience a labor shortage in their workplace, with this number rising to over half (50.5%) in the construction sector.
