Liberal Democratic Party Vice President Taro Aso left Haneda Airport for New York on Monday to meet with former US President Donald Trump. He returns to Japan on Thursday.

Aso aims to build a bond with Trump in case the former president potentially wins in the US presidential elections in November. If the meeting with Trump takes place, the pair will likely discuss, among other things, the importance of the Japan-US alliance.
