Japan has many shukujitsu (holidays) โ 16, to be exact.
By comparison, Nepal will have the highest number of public holidays this year โ a whopping 39 โ while Mexico, the United Kingdom and Ecuador will celebrate only eight (depending on internal divisions).
Japanese shukujitsu include National Foundation Day on February 11, Spring Equinox Day around March 20, and Maritime and Mountain Days on the third Monday of July and August 11, respectively. And they are not to be confused with celebrations such as Valentine’s Day on February 14, Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May or Father’s Day โ tomorrow, on the second Sunday in June.
