Almost every day in the summer, you can expect the weather in Japan to fall into one of three categories: hot, humid, or hot and humid. To deal with this, many people in Japan switch to using a towel once the temperature and humidity start to rise. A combination of the words ‘towel’ and ‘blanket’. A towel is essentially a terry cloth blanket, something that will keep you cozy while you sleep, but made of breathable, stretchy material that will maintain your comfort level as your body temperature rises as morning approaches.
And now there’s another reason to switch to towel cloth material for summer, with a new line of charmingly adorable towel pillow covers featuring the anime stars of Studio Ghibli.
The covers are offered through Ghibli specialty store Donguri Kyowakoku and come in four designs, representing four of the studio’s films. It’s not a proper Ghibli meeting until Totoro shows up, so of course the cuddly forest spirit is here, in both large and small Totoro versions on either side of the pillowcase, with a few Soot Sprites (aka Makkurokurosuke [aka Susuwatari]) along for the ride.
